(magazine deflamenco) ,,Japanese pianist Mie Matsumura has established herself as a unique and charismatic pianist who has won wide acclaim in the Spanish music scene. Matsumura is not only the first non-Spanish pianist to have given a recital of all-Spanish repertoire (music of Falla, Granados, and Turina) at the National Auditorium of Madrid which is the most prestigious hall for the classical music of Spain, but also the first classical musician to appear as the principal artist on the stages of the most prestigious theatres in the flamenco world, such as the Lope de Vega Theatre in Seville, the Villamarta Theatre in Jerez, and the Canal Theatre in Madrid.

Matsumura began studying the piano at age three and entered Toho-gakuen school of music for children at six in her native Japan. Later she moved to the US and continued her study in Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where she won the first prize at the concerto competition with the Rachmaninoff piano concerto no.3 and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as the prestigious Performer`s Certificate. She was selected for the masterclass for Martha Argerich in the Beppu festival. She has given performances in the concerts and festivals throughout America, Europe, and Japan, including at the Weill Hall at the Carnegie Hall. Matsumura has been a soloist with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, and Asou philharmonic orchestra, and active as a chamber musician performing with the top members of the NHK orchestra. She won numerous prizes including the Awerbuch International Piano Competition in NY and Kingsville Young Performers International Competition and others. Her teachers include Natalya Antonova, Micheal Block, Shigeo Neriki, and Hiroko Edo.

Since 2004, Matsumura has lived in Spain and enlarged her repetoire to the Spanish music of its “nationalistic” composers such as Falla, Albeniz, Granados, and Turina. In May 2007, Matsumura premiered “Serenata Andaluza” in prestigious Lope de Vega Theatre in Seville, which combined the authentic flamenco from Andalucia and the Spanish classical piano music. Since then, she has corraborated with flamenco dancers like Antonio Canales, Alejandro Granados, Joaquin Grillo, and Rafael Campallo at flamenco festivals such as the Flamenco Festival de Jerez, Suma Flamenca Madrid, and Flamenco Viene de Sur. For the largest flamenco festival in Madrid, Suma Flamenca, the national paper El Mundo featured Matsumura in an article titled “Morente, Matsumura, and Farruquito assemble in Madrid,” along with her photo for the festival Suma Flamenca in 2009.

Matsumura has released the CD of “Goyescas” by Enrique Granados from ALM Record, which was selected as the “Recommended CD of the Month” by both the Nikkei and Mainichi newspapers in Japan. Critics have praised the recording as “Splendid, having captured the unexpectedly large world of Goyescas…” and “evocative of the passion and fantasy of Spain with confidence…”. She has toured Japan with the Granados.
Matsumura has been featured on radio and TV and also writes articles about Spanish music in the magazine.

“松村は、フラメンコの感情を楽譜にしみ込ませることを知っている”（雑誌デフラメンコ）、“謎に満ちたトレーニングと素晴らしいテクニック、そして・・・なんと驚くことに、彼女の鍵盤でフラメンコのグループ全体を、将軍のように統率する並外れたリズム感を持っている”（雑誌デフラメンコ）と絶賛され、以来、世界的にも稀なスペイン音楽のスペシャリスト、スペイン音楽のパイオニアとしての国際的な地位を確立する。

2007年、本場スペインのフラメンコ界最高峰の舞台であるセビリアのロぺ・デ・ベガ劇場で、フラメンコとクラシック音楽（ファリャ、アルベニス、グラナドス）の出会いを描いた作品“セレナータ・アンダルーサ”を初演。名誉あることに、この松村主演の一流のフラメンコ・アーティストによる舞台は、スペイン人を含めても、クラシックの音楽家がこの最高峰の劇場の舞台に主演として登場するのは史上初めてのものとなった。
またスペインのクラシック音楽において最高峰のホールであるマドリッドの国立音楽堂では、ファリャ、グラナドス、アルベニス、トゥリナによるスペイン人作曲家の作品だけのプログラムでリサイタルを行う。この演奏会も、名誉あることに、スペイン人以外の外国人がこのホールでスペイン作品だけのプログラムで行われた初めてのリサイタルとなり、“複雑なパッセージの透明度や色彩は彼女の強みであり、彼女は完璧なリズム感を持っている”（ムンド・クラシコ）と批評家に絶賛される。

へレス・フラメンコ・フェスティバル、マドリッドのスーマ・フラメンカ、フラメンコ・ビエネ・デ・スール等のフラメンコ界の主要フェスティバルに出演、国の最優秀賞舞踊賞受賞のダンサー・アントニオ・カナレスや、アレハンドロ・グラナドス、ホアキン・グリロ、ラファエル・カンパージョ等と共演。マドリッドのカナル劇場、へレスのビジャマルタ劇場等のフラメンコ界の最高峰の劇場に出演する。マドリッド最大のフラメンコフェスティバル、スーマ・フラメンカの開催時には、スペイン全国紙エル・ムンドで“モレンテ、松村、ファルキートがマドリッドに集う”とフラメンコ界の2大スターに挟まれて松村自身の写真を唯一使って紹介される。スペイン各地はもとより、NYのカーネギー・ワイル・ホールをはじめ北南米、ヨーロッパで演奏する。

日本でも数々のソロリサイタルをはじめ、九州交響楽団との共演、室内楽ではNHK首席奏者らやストリング・カルテットARCOと共演。NHKのFM名曲リサイタル等にも出演。

また、「スペインという名の迷宮より」という題で、スペイン音楽について音楽現代より約3年間連載を寄稿。

ラジオ・TV出演等も行い精力的に活躍している。

2012年にはALMレーブルからエンリケ・グラナドス作曲、組曲ゴイェスカス－ゴヤが霊感を与えた音楽－をリリースする。

日経と毎日新聞の「今月の3枚」に選出され、“自信にあふれたタッチで、決して情感過多におぼれず、スペインの情熱と幻想的な雰囲気をあますところなく伝える”（日経新聞）、“その意外に大きな世界を骨太にとらえて秀逸だ”（毎日新聞）、“ここには本場に根ついた音楽の魅力にあふれている”（音楽現代）と取り上げられる。国立西洋美術館主催、プラド美術館協賛のゴヤ展に参加。札幌から九州までのツアーも行う。

北九州市生まれ。３歳よりピアノを始め、桐朋の子供のための音楽教室大阪分室入室。京都市立堀川高校音楽科卒業後渡米。インディアナ大学を経て、名門ニューヨーク・ロチェスター大学イーストマン音楽大学ピアノ科より学士、修士号修得する。ラフマニノフのピアノ協奏曲第３番でコンチェルト・コンクールに優勝。卒業時に優秀な演奏家に贈られるパフォーマーズ・サーティフィケート賞受賞。98年別府マルタ・アルゲリッチ音楽祭では、アルゲリッチのマスタークラスを受講。
アウワーバック国際ピアノコンクール、イーストマン・コンチェルトコンクール、キングスビル国際コンクール等に優勝・入賞。
ナタリア・アントノヴァ、練木繁男、故ミッシェル・ブロック、故江戸弘子に師事。
